Online school announces a novel bachelors program in business

Updated: Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Walden University, a Minnesota school offering a range of online degrees, has said it will launch a bachelors degree in business administration that will be taught entirely in Spanish.

The move was dictated by the desire to open business education and business career opportunities in the U.S. to those for whom English may be an obstacle to achieving their dreams, the university has said.

Dr. Ivonne Chirino-Klevans, director of the program at Walden, stresses some Latinos prefer to learn and communicate in Spanish, but thus far they have not been properly served by America's higher education institutions.

She believes "college-ready, Spanish-dominant individuals now have a greater opportunity to improve their lives and advance their careers."

Studies have shown that salaries of those with college degrees consistently surpass the earnings of those without higher education.

For example, estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau for 2007 show the average earnings for men with high school education were $42,466, while those with bachelors degrees earned $88,843, which is more than twice as much.

After completing their bachelors degree, students have an option to enroll in an accredited MBA program.
